Stove installers in Middlesbrough
Carlton Stoves travels to Middlesbrough to install wood burning and multifuel stoves, from Linthorpe terraces to Nunthorpe family homes. We are a HETAS-registered team from Newcastle, and every job comes with a survey, a fixed written price and full certification.

HETAS approved
HETAS is the official body for solid fuel heating. Its approval is your assurance of safe, correctly certified stove installation.

Stove installation for Teesside homes
Middlesbrough homes can be draughty in winter, especially on the older terraced streets close to the town centre, and a well-fitted stove makes a real difference to a living room. We are based in Newcastle and work across Middlesbrough and the rest of Teesside, travelling to you at no extra charge on standard installations.
Because we only install, rather than run a showroom, our prices stay reasonable. Have a read of how much a stove installation usually costs and the full range of chimney and stove work we carry out, then send us a photo of your fireplace to get started.
Our services
Stove services in Middlesbrough
What we do on a Middlesbrough installation, from first visit to handover.
Stove supply and fit
Choose an Ecodesign wood burner or multifuel stove we supply, or have us fit a stove you already own.
Chimney lining
Many of the town's Victorian flues are well over a century old. A stainless steel liner, insulated where needed, makes them safe and efficient again.
Twin-wall flues
Newer homes in Coulby Newham, Hemlington and beyond are often chimney-free, so we install a twin-wall flue instead.
Hearths and register plates
We fit compliant hearths and neat register plates, whether you want a modern slate look or a traditional fireplace.
Sweeping and smoke tests
Every chimney is swept and smoke tested before the stove is fitted, so problems are spotted early.
Certification and CO alarm
We fit a carbon monoxide alarm and self-certify through HETAS, so you receive your Building Regulations certificate.
Homes in Middlesbrough
Terraced streets, Linthorpe villas and southern suburbs
Middlesbrough's rapid Victorian growth left long streets of brick terraces, many with chimney breasts in the front room and bedrooms. Linthorpe and the streets around Albert Park have larger Victorian and Edwardian houses with generous fireplaces, while Acklam and Marton have plenty of interwar and post-war semis. Some have been altered over the years, so we always check what is behind a boarded-up fireplace before quoting.
Further south, Coulby Newham, Hemlington and Nunthorpe include many later twentieth-century homes, some built without a chimney at all, so we tailor the work to the house. If you live on the other side of the Tees, see our Stockton-on-Tees stove page.
- Victorian terraces with original chimney breasts
- Larger period houses around Linthorpe and Albert Park
- Interwar semis in Acklam and Marton
- Modern southern suburbs suited to twin-wall flues
Parts of Middlesbrough may fall within smoke control areas, so we check your address with Middlesbrough Council before we quote.
Local history
A short history of Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough is one of England's youngest large towns. A priory stood here from the late 7th century until the Dissolution in 1537, yet in 1801 the township had just 25 residents. That changed in 1829, when Joseph Pease and his partners began building a coal port served by the Stockton and Darlington Railway.
Iron soon took over. Henry Bolckow and John Vaughan opened an iron foundry in 1841, and the discovery of ironstone in the Eston Hills around 1850 set off a boom. By the mid-1870s the town produced about a third of the nation's pig iron and had earned the nickname Ironopolis. Its population rose from about 40 in 1829 to around 90,000 by 1900.
Steel followed, and the Middlesbrough firm Dorman Long fabricated the steelwork for the Sydney Harbour Bridge, opened in 1932. Closer to home, the Tees Transporter Bridge opened in 1911. Built by Sir William Arrol & Co, it still carries its gondola across the river and remains the town's best-known landmark.

Stove questions from Middlesbrough homeowners
Questions Middlesbrough homeowners often ask us.
Do you charge to travel from Newcastle to Middlesbrough?
Not on a standard installation. Middlesbrough is within our North East area, and the written quote is the price you pay.
Can you fit a stove in a Victorian terrace with a shared chimney stack?
Usually. We sweep and smoke test the flue to make sure it is sealed from next door's, then line it so smoke goes where it should.
Will Middlesbrough Council's smoke control rules affect my stove?
They may, depending on where you live. We check your address with the council and recommend an exempt stove and authorised fuel if needed.
What size stove suits a terraced front room?
Smaller rooms often need only a modest output, and an oversized stove can make a room uncomfortable. We measure up at survey and explain our recommendation.
How soon can you survey my home?
Usually within days of your call. Ring 07404 544 688 or send photos of your fireplace to start.
Ready for a warmer home?
Tell us about your room and your chimney. Photos help. We will reply with a clear, fixed-price quote and no obligation.
