Local stove installers

A straightforward way to get a stove fitted in Morpeth

Morpeth is only a short run up the A1 from our Newcastle base, which makes it one of the easier market towns for us to reach. We are a small team of HETAS-registered stove installers, and we look after the whole job ourselves rather than passing parts of it to other trades. There is no travel charge on standard installations here.

Most people start by sending a few photos of their fireplace, chimney breast and outside stack. From there we arrange a survey, usually within days, and give you a written fixed-price quote. We can supply a stove or fit one you already own. If you want to understand the process first, our stove advice and FAQs cover the common questions.

Our services

Stove services in Morpeth

Each installation includes the following, carried out by the same team from start to finish.

  • Stove supply and fit

We supply Ecodesign wood burners and multifuel stoves suited to your room, or fit one you have bought elsewhere, in town houses and village homes alike.

  • Chimney lining

Stone and brick chimneys in Morpeth's older properties often benefit from a stainless steel liner, insulated where needed, for a safe and steady draw.

  • Twin-wall flue systems

The newer estates around Morpeth often have no chimney at all. A twin-wall flue through a wall or roof solves that neatly.

  • Hearths and register plates

We fit hearths to the correct size and seal the chimney with a register plate above the stove, finished to suit the room.

  • Sweeping and smoke tests

We sweep and smoke test the chimney before fitting, so we know the flue is clear and sound.

  • Certification

Your installation comes with a carbon monoxide alarm and a Building Regulations certificate, self-certified through HETAS.

Homes in Morpeth

Georgian streets, riverside houses and new estates

Morpeth's centre is full of older stone buildings around Bridge Street, Oldgate and Newgate Street, with a conservation area covering much of the historic core. Near the River Wansbeck there are Victorian terraces and larger houses, while estates such as those at Stobhill, Kirkhill and on the northern edge of town have been built more recently.

In older properties we often find fireplaces boarded up decades ago, flues that need lining and stacks that need a little attention. Newer houses are more likely to need a twin-wall flue, much like the modern estates we work on in nearby Ashington. For a rough idea of how each affects the price, see our stove installation cost guide.

Local history

A short history of Morpeth

Morpeth grew up at a crossing point of the River Wansbeck. In 1200 King John granted a market charter to Roger de Merlay, and by the mid-18th century the town held one of the key cattle markets in England, selling cattle driven down by drovers from Scotland. Morpeth Castle was built in the late 13th century; today its restored gatehouse belongs to the Landmark Trust.

Several landmarks reflect the town's long history. The Chantry, a 13th-century chapel, now houses the tourist information centre and the Morpeth Chantry Bagpipe Museum, and a free-standing 17th-century clock tower stands in Oldgate. Vice Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood, Nelson's second in command at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, made his home in Morpeth, and the suffragette Emily Wilding Davison is buried in St Mary's churchyard.

More recently, in 2008, a month's worth of rain fell on the town, flooding around 1,000 properties and leading to hundreds of residents being evacuated. New flood defences for the town centre were completed in 2014.

Stove questions from Morpeth homeowners

Questions we are often asked by people in and around Morpeth.

Is there a travel charge for Morpeth?

No. Morpeth is close to our Newcastle base, so standard installations carry no travel charge. Very remote rural addresses may differ, and we would explain that in the quote.

Does Northumberland County Council have smoke control areas in Morpeth?

Parts of the county may be covered, so we check your exact address with Northumberland County Council before we quote. We fit Ecodesign stoves, which suit most homes either way.

Can you fit a stove in a conservation area?

Yes, in most cases. If your home is listed or a new flue would be visible, consent may be needed, so we flag that early and plan the work with care.

My fireplace was boarded up years ago. Can it be used again?

Often it can. We open up and inspect the opening, sweep and smoke test the flue, then explain whether a liner or repairs are needed.

How soon can you visit?

Surveys are usually within days of you getting in touch, and photos sent first help us prepare.

Ready for a warmer home?

Tell us about your room and your chimney. Photos help. We will reply with a clear, fixed-price quote and no obligation.
